About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Parul Institute of Engineering & Technology (PIET) and Parul Institute of Technology (PIT) was established in the year 2003 and 2010, respectively by PASM trust. Department has been accredited by NAAC, NBA and approved by AICTE. Department offers undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering as well as post graduate programs in Thermal Engineering, Internal Combustion Engine and Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Machine Design. As allied branches of Mechanical Engineering, two independent departments were established under the name of Automobile Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering departments in the year 2013 and 2015 at PIT & PIET respectively.

Systematically designed industry oriented curriculum and dedicated faculty members from IIT, NIT & other well-known institutes of India make this department a dynamic place to study. The department is well equipped with Research Laboratories in CAD/CAM, IC Engine, Automobile Engineering, Thermal Engineering, CAE & High Computing Facility including ANSYS, Fluent CFX, HTRI, and CREO etc.

To promote the research among the stake holders, Department has organized numerous short term training programs, national conferences, seminars and workshops on emerging areas of Mechanical Engineering. As a part of Industry Institute Interaction, Researchers from Parul University along with the professionals from Larsen & Toubro and University of Surrey, UK are currently working together on the Project titled "To Reduce Water Consumption and Optimize Efficiency of Thermal Power Plants by using Air Cooled Condensers"., amounting to £ 104,130 majorly funded by Royal Academy of Engineering - UK under the Higher Education partnership - India Program (Newton Bhabha Fund)."

The Department is associated with the leading Industries and International Universities through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).Under the flagship of International Exchange Program, students and faculties have participated for a global learning opportunity at University of Applied Sciences – Bielefeld Germany, Wroclaw University of Technology – Poland and Skoda Auto University – Czech Republic. To bring out student’s potentials, various Students Chapters like Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) were established in Mechanical Department. The global challenges of multidisciplinary system demand integrative effort to offer Sustainable, Manageable, Appropriate, Rational and Transferable (SMART) solutions. Physics based modeling or model based engineering concerns the formulation of a generic dynamical modeling framework that facilitates the design of complex systems, such as robotic systems, mechatronic systems or cyber-physical systems. Automation and Flexible Manufacturing System offers improvement in functionality, flexibility and robustness of industrial production lines. Cost-effective, sustainable creation and realization of highly customized products and services throughout the supply chain is a key in smart industry initiatives. Use of Artificial intelligence, Virtual reality, Augmented reality and Internet of Things in Mechanical and allied engineering are the backbone which transforms physical objects into autonomous subjects. Additive manufacturing technique popularly known as 3D printing is considered as a paradigm shift—where computer controlled tools and processes are used to transform digital designs directly into physical products. Integral to the development of advanced production processes, focus is to investigate innovative manufacturing processes for new materials like graphene-based materials and biomaterials based products. There are huge opportunities of lightless manufacturing and logistics of new services including transportation, recreation, education, distribution, retail, health care support and even sustainability in energy and material savings.
